Teen Hero from Cebu Receives Full Scholarship After Saving People From Raging Flood
A teen hero from Cebu who saved more than 50 people during the massive floods brought by Typhoon Tino received a full scholarship.
A 15-year-old boy from Liloan, Cebu, who courageously saved more than 50 people during the devastating floods brought by Typhoon Tino, has been rewarded with a full scholarship for his act of bravery.
The young hero, Jayboy Magdadaro from Barangay Jubay, risked his life to rescue trapped residents using only a lifebuoy and a small boat. From morning until late afternoon, he tirelessly helped families escape rising floodwaters, guiding children, pregnant women, and the elderly to safety. Despite the danger of strong currents and floating debris, Jayboy never gave up.

His act of heroism caught the attention of Mabolo Barangay Captain Atty. Daniel Francis Arguedo, who granted him a full scholarship covering all school fees, along with a P3,000 monthly allowance.
The scholarship can be used for any college course Jayboy chooses to pursue in the future.
Arguedo praised Jayboy for showing “heroism beyond his years,” saying that his courage and compassion are qualities that young people should look up to. Jayboy, who is also a skimboarder, shared that his hobby helped him navigate through the powerful floodwaters, a skill that unexpectedly became life-saving that day.

Jayboy initially thought his own neighborhood in Fatima would be the most affected. He evacuated to a safer area, but upon realizing that Villa Lara was hit harder, he returned to help those who were trapped.
After the rescue, several people offered him money as gratitude, but he politely declined, saying helping others should never come with a price.

As of this writing, Jayboy hopes to continue his studies and inspire other young people to be brave, selfless, and kind, proving that even at a young age.
