Construction Worker Dies Over Videoke Song Dispute

A 48-year-old construction worker was shot dead following a heated argument over a videoke song in San Mateo, Isabela.

The victim, identified as Roberto Miguel, was enjoying a small gathering with friends in Barangay San Marcos when the incident happened.

According to police reports, both the victim and the suspect were guests at the same celebration, though they did not know each other personally. Witnesses said the suspect, a visitor from another town, suddenly approached the victim and shot him in the head and chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“Itong suspek, pinagbintangan niya na inagaw ng victim ‘yung kanyang kanta kahit hindi naman, sabi ng witness. Hindi na naming natanong [kung anong kanta] dahil nag-focus kami sa details ng suspek saka hot pursuit operation kung saan ‘yung location kung saan pupunta ‘yung suspek,” Police Staff Sergeant Clemente Caronan Jr. said.

Investigators learned that the group had been drinking and singing videoke on the terrace of a house when the misunderstanding occurred. The suspect allegedly became angry after believing that the victim had taken over the song he intended to sing.

In the middle of the fun, the suspect reportedly drew a gun and fired twice before fleeing the scene.

Police Staff Sergeant Clemente Caronan Jr., who is handling the case, said they have already coordinated with forensic experts to recover more evidence since the weapon used in the shooting has not yet been found.

Authorities have also conducted follow-up operations to locate the suspect, who remains at large. Investigators confirmed that the two men were strangers and that the suspect had only joined the gathering and the videoke session shortly before the shooting.
