Crocodile Attacks Fisherman Sleeping on His Small Boat in Palawan
A fisherman tragically lost his life after being attacked by a crocodile while he was asleep on his small boat in Palawan.
A crocodile attack happens when a crocodile attacks a person or animal, usually to defend its territory, to protect its nest, or because it mistakes the target for prey.
Crocodiles are powerful reptiles that live in rivers, lakes, mangroves, and coastal areas, especially in tropical regions like the Philippines, Australia, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Most crocodile attacks occur near the water’s edge, where people may be swimming, washing, fishing, or boating. The reptile usually ambushes its target silently, grabbing it with a sudden bite and pulling it underwater.
Recently, a 22-year-old fisherman died after being attacked and dragged away by a crocodile while he was asleep on his small boat in Bataraza, Palawan.
The incident in Sitio Marabahay, Barangay Rio Tuba. The victim, who was originally from Taytay, had traveled to Bataraza to fish. After a long night at sea, he anchored his boat and fell asleep, unaware that danger was lurking nearby.
Moments later, a crocodile suddenly appeared and attacked him, pulling him from his boat into the mangrove area. The terrifying incident shocked nearby fishermen who could do little to help.
Authorities from the Coast Guard Station Southern Palawan, the Philippine National Police Maritime Group, and local barangay officials immediately launched a search and rescue operation.
For hours, they searched the mangrove-covered waters hoping to find the young man alive. Unfortunately, their efforts ended in heartbreak when they later found the victim’s lifeless body floating in the water. The crocodile was no longer in sight.

Residents in the area expressed fear after the incident, saying that crocodile sightings have become more common, especially near rivers and coastal areas where fishermen usually rest. Many are now afraid to fish or sleep near the water at night.
The local government has reminded the public to stay alert and avoid known crocodile habitats, especially in areas where attacks have previously happened.
