Handbook for Barangay Tanod Launched by DILG
DILG has launched a “Handbook for Barangay Tanod” a comprehensive guide designed to help barangay watchmen perform their duties more effectively.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has launched a handbook for barangay tanod to improve peace and order in local communities
DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla explained that the handbook aims to equip barangay tanods with the right knowledge and skills as they serve as the first responders in their areas. It also emphasizes their role in protecting human rights and supporting community development.

The handbook includes detailed instructions on how to properly respond to crimes and emergencies, handle gender-sensitive cases, and ensure child protection. By providing clear and practical guidelines, the DILG hopes to build more confident and capable barangay tanods who can maintain peace and order with professionalism and compassion.
Along with the handbook, the DILG also introduced the Barangay Tanod Skills Enhancement Training, which was rolled out in the cities of Angeles, Balanga, Calamba, and Tagaytay.
The program focuses on improving the skills of tanods in these four justice zones, helping them respond better to real-life situations and strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies.

The move shows the DILG’s continuing commitment to support good governance and community safety. Barangay tanods, often seen as the frontliners of public order, play a vital role in resolving local disputes and preventing crimes before they escalate.
Through the new handbook and training programs, the government hopes to empower these community protectors to serve with greater competence, empathy, and integrity ensuring that every barangay remains a safe and peaceful place for all.
