Sen. Chiz Escudero Reacts To Ethics Complaint Filed against him at Senate
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senator claimed that the ethics complaint filed against him before the Senate is allegedly due to his mention of presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez.
The Senate had a shakeup amid the flood control mess after some senators are linked to the issue. Sen. Escudero was ousted and replaced with Sen. Tito Sotto who was the Minority Leader before the flood control issue broke out.

After Pres. Bongbong Marcos revealed that the country has already spent P545 billion for the flood control projects from July 2022 to May 2025 and there are 15 contractors that got around P100 billion, Sen. Escudero admitted to receiving a P30-million campaign donation from one of the contractors flagged by the Chief Executive.
According to Sen. Chiz Escudero, the contractor who donated P30-million for his campaign in 2022 is a long-time friend of his. He also claimed that the contractor is also from his hometown, Sorsogon.

The said contractor who was later on identified as Lawrence Lubiano, the president of the Centerways Construction and Development Corp. was invited in the flood control probes conducted by the Senate and the House of Representatives. According to him, his P30 million campaign donation was his own money.

Lubiano claimed that the P30 million did not come from the construction company. While the issue has simmered, another accuser of Escudero crossed the surface. Former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo accused the Senator of allegedly receiving a P160-million kickback from flood control projects.
Recently, Sen. Chiz Escudero slammed former House Speaker Martin Romualdez over the flood control mess. According to him, the Leyte Congressman is allegedly the one behind the flood control accusations against the senators.

A lawyer recently filed an ethics complaint against Sen. Chiz Escudero over the P30-million campaign donation to him by a contractor. As for the Senator, the complaint is allegedly because of his mentioning of the name of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“Ito ang kabayaran sa pagbanggit ko sa pangalan ni Martin Romualdez at sa pagbubunyag sa katotohanan. This is just part of the harassment from his minions,” Escudero said based on a report on ABS-CBN News.
According to the Senator, the ethics complaint is allegedly a “desperate smokescreen”. Based on the report, he vowed that he will expose it as a supposed “politically-motivated sham”.
