Parañaque Student Braves Floodwaters Due To Late Class Suspension
A student in Parañaque was forced to wade through floodwaters just to attend class in the middle of heavy rain and flooding the other day.
Recently, Ammiel Chiku Menhas, a Facebook user, shared his disappointment with the school for not immediately announcing the suspension of classes and for continuing with the scheduled exams. The post quickly went viral and received numerous reactions online.
The student expressed disappointment on social media, saying that the school decided to push through with classes and exams despite the worsening weather.
According to Menhas by 10:30 a.m., major roads leading to the school were already flooded, yet they were still required to attend their 11:00 a.m. class. He shared that he had informed school staff about the situation but was told that classes would continue. It forced him and other students to brave the flooded streets just to get to school.
In his post, Ammiel also voiced his frustration over how some professors responded to their concerns. He felt that their situation was not taken seriously, pointing out that not all students have a choice when roads are flooded.
It was only around 3:00 p.m. that the school finally announced the suspension of classes, hours after students had already struggled to get to campus.
Many students and parents agreed that class suspensions should be declared earlier to avoid putting students at risk. It also earned conversations about the need for schools to prioritize student safety during heavy rains and flooding.
