Comedian Supertstar Vice Ganda has received criticisms over the “jet ski” joke, and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro reacted to it.
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez and Unkabogable Superstar Vice Ganda joined forces over the weekend to bring laughter and entertainment at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. They’ve had a 2-night concert, and some of the things they pulled off at the event went viral online.
One of those banters that caught attention online was their jokes about former president Rodrigo Duterte about his previous and current issues. Vice made jokes about his old jet ski statement and being flown to The Hague, which earned laughter, but at the same time, hit a nerve in the avid supporters of the former chief executive.
The joke that sparked outrage was:
“Nothing beats a jet ski holiday, right now from Manila to the West Philippine Sea via jet ski. Get unlimited water bombing from Chinese vessels and a free trip to The Hague by the ICC (International Criminal Court). Promo applies to DDS (Diehard Duterte Supporters) only. Pinklawans and BBMs are prohibited. Huwag niyo akong subukan, mga pu****i** niyo (Don’t try my patience, you sons of b******)”
The joke referred to Duterte’s claim during the 2016 presidential campaign. He will accordingly ride a jet ski to the Spratly Islands and plant a Philippine flag there.
Harry Roque fired back at Vice, saying he made everything worse for the former leader she used to admire. He said, “Ang ginawa mo, nasa sahig na si Tatay Digong, nakakulong na, 80 anyos, mamamatay na yata sa kulungan, sinipa-sipa mo pa!”
Contrary to Roque’s reaction, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro defended the superstar comedian against the critics of his concert joke. She slammed the critical comments and pointed out that the joke was not a made-up story. The remark came from the former president himself.
She added, “Isn’t it true that China used water cannons against our Philippine Coast Guard?” and went on, “Parang lumalabas na bastos si Vice Ganda. Teka lang, sino ba ang bastos? Sino ba ‘yung palamura? Sino ang bumastos sa mga Pilipino?”
