Way back years ago, while Facebook is still on its early stage, Google –the world’s number one search engine was not able to figure out that this young blood of social networking site in years to come will stand and will be one of their fierce rivals.

On a 90 minute face off with the press, Google’s Eric Schmidt admitted that there was once a plan to team up with Facebook however it ended not successful and it was not pursued for during his time as the Google’s CEO, he wasn’t able to see the chances that on today’s trend of shifting technological landscape and innovations, they have to get partners like Facebook for them to continue growing with stability and progress.

Google may be leading when it comes to service as a search engine but Facebook’s existence together with Groupon is threatening the advertisement income of Google. If Facebook is a top social networking site, Groupon in the other hand is website featuring a deal-of-the-day service for gift certificates with very attractive discounts. This website was launch way back 2008 and in just near 3 years it had conquered the markets of U.S most in North America, as well as in Europe, Asia and South America and it has 35 million registered users.

Google may not be able to team with Facebook but they still have partnership with Apple and they are in the process of making technological enhancements that will benefit and cater both their strengths for the continued growth.
