Sen. Raffy Tulfo Speaks on VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Case
RAFFY TULFO – The Senator revealed that he will vote against a motion to dismiss the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte if there will be.
Currently, many Filipinos are in doubt if the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will really push through or not. The doubts were triggered after the Senate impeachment court decided to return the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President to the House of Representatives.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero claimed that the return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House does not equate to the dismissal or termination of the case. According to him, it is an opportunity for the prosecutors to answer questions before the impeachment court makes a judgment.
The remand of Duterte’s impeachment is due to questions about the constitutionality of the impeachment of the Vice President. The senator judges also want a reconfirmation from the 20th Congress.
Eighteen (18) senator judges voted in favor of the motion to return the Articles of Impeachment to the House of Representatives. Only five (5) senator judges voted against the motion.

The remand of Duterte’s impeachment to the House gained different reactions from the people most especially senators and former senators. Former Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel and Sen. Risa Hontiveros claimed that there is no concept of return in the Constitution.
However, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero claimed that the Senate impeachment court can allegedly decide on anything. Escudero also claimed that the impeachment court can even junk Duterte’s impeachment case even without a trial.
Several senators have spoken their side on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, Sen. Raffy Tulfo recently broke his silence and claimed that he will vote against a possible motion to dismiss the impeachment case against the Vice President.
According to Sen. Raffy Tulfo, he really wants the impeachment trial to push through so Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be given a chance to air her side. He stressed that it would be better that she would be able to clear her name through defending herself to prove her innocence from the allegations against her.
“Mas maganda diba ma-clear niya ang name niya sa pamamagitan ng pagdidpensya niya doon sa impeachment at mapapatunayan na inosente siya as opposed to ‘yung mababasura before na magkaroon ng hearing sa impeachment,” Tulfo said.
According to Sen. Raffy Tulfo, he has been consulting the legal advice of experts including former Supreme Court justices as part of his preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on the report, he wants to “make intelligent decisions at the end of the day”.
Amid the speculations on who will be the chief of the Senate in the 20th Congress, Sen. Raffy Tulfo also recently confirmed his vote for the Senate president.
