Sen. Joel Villanueva Speaks on Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero ahead of 20th Congress
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senate President is poised to retain the Senate presidency according to Senator Joel Villanueva.
The Senate is set to proceed in the 20th Congress and a new set of senators are expected to join the existing lawmakers in the upper chamber. Currently, there are different views on who might lead the Senate.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously confirmed that he is open to be the Senate president again in the 20th Congress. Former Senate president and senator-elect Tito Sotto also previously claimed that he is open to leading the upper chamber again upon his return as a legislator.
Sotto was the Senate president of the 18th Congress. According to him, if he has the numbers, he is willing to lead the upper chamber again.

The Senate observes an election process in determining who will be the Senate president. Twenty-four (24) senators will be voting. According to Sen. Joel Villanueva, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero is poising to retain his lead in the upper chamber.

Based on a report on Inquirer, Sen. Joel Villanueva said that if the election for Senate president will be held now, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero will allegedly retain his position. According to him, he had personally spoken with his fellow senators to check their perspectives.
“If we were to hold the elections today, we already know — and I think your information is as good as mine — that Senate President Chiz Escudero will be retained as our Senate president,” Villanueva said.
Based on the report, Sen. Joel Villanueva admitted that he personally supports Senate Pres. Escudero in leading the upper chamber. He stressed the accomplishments that the leadership of Escudero has brought in the chamber as well as his ties with his colleagues in the Senate.
“At the end of the day, you look at the accomplishments of the Senate during his tenure, and there are many measures passed, and at the same time, the respect he gives to our senators,” he said.
Sen. Joel Villanueva claimed that 13 senators allegedly back the Senate presidency of Escudero. Based on the report, the Senator is currently confident that Escudero will maintain his lead as he has allegedly talked to majority of the senators but he is also aware that their votes may change.
Former Senate Pres. Tito Sotto previously claimed that there are people who allegedly want him for the Senate presidency.
