DSWD to Provide P80K Cash Aid to Woman Seen Coming Out from Drain in Makati

A woman seen coming out from a drain in Makati to receive P80, 000 cash aid from DSWD to start a small store.

Earlier this week, a video of a woman identified as Rose coming out of a canal went viral. While many assumed she lived in the drainage, Rose clarified that she only entered it to retrieve a blade that had fallen.

Authorities later learned she and Jerome had previously rented a place in Pasong Tamo but had since become homeless.

Recently, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced that Rose will be receiving P80,000 in livelihood assistance. The financial support will help her start a small store, a dream she shared during her assessment with social workers.

“Rose will be given Php 80,000 in livelihood assistance to help her start a ‘sari-sari’ store which is her preferred entrepreneurial project,” DSWD said.

According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Rose wants to start a better life. The agency believes she’s capable of running a small business and is ready to support her goal of owning a store.

“Ang magiging intervention natin kay Rose, pangarap daw niya kasing magkaroon ng tindahan at sa assessment ng ating social worker ay kaya naman niya,” Gatchalian said.

Her partner, Jerome, is also being considered for assistance. Since he has welding skills, the DSWD may help him get training or provide him with a welding machine so both of them can earn a more stable income.

On the same day, Rose joined the DSWD team in going around Makati to encourage others living on the streets to seek help from the Pag-abot shelter. This shelter program provides assistance and temporary housing for homeless individuals.

Now, with the help of the DSWD, Rose is being given a second chance not only to improve her own life but also to help others in similar situations find hope and support.
