Malacañang claimed that “fake news” are allegedly the reason behind the decline in the trust and performance rating of President Bongbong Marcos.

Following the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Marcos Jr. earned a lot of criticisms. Several people accused the President of allegedly betraying the Filipino people and insulting the sovereignty of the country.

Malacañang previously insisted that Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not commit ‘betrayal’ saying that the government only did its job. Both Marcos Jr. and the Palace stressed that the government acted on the arrest of Duterte due to its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol.

Marcos Jr. also stressed that every necessary procedure was allegedly followed in the arrest of the former President. Several government officials including Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero claimed that the arrest followed the legal process.

However, amid the political turmoil in the Philippine government following the unexpected turn of events last March 11, the trust and performance rating of Pres. Bongbong Marcos dropped. Though it is unclear if the arrest of former Pres. Duterte has something to do with it, Malacañang revealed its side on the alleged root of the result of the survey.

Based on a report on GMA News, the recent Pulse Asia survey found that the trust and performance rating of Marcos Jr. has dropped by 17 percentage points — from 42% in February to 25% in March.

Recently, Malacañang reacted to the result of latest survey conducted by the Pulse Asia. Based on the report, Malacañang press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro blamed “fake news” for the decline in the trust and performance rating of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

The results of the survey also showed an increase on the disapproval rating of Marcos Jr. by 21 percentage points to 53%. In a press briefing, Castro also stressed that the respondents of the survey do not reflect the stand of all the Filipino people. She stressed that the survey only includes the opinion of 2,400 Filipinos.

“Dapat natin malaman ang mga respondents, saan ang mga respondents, ang respondents ba ito ay nakakatanggap ng totoong news, or kung ang mga ito ay naiimpluwensyahan ng fake news,” the Palace press officer said.

Amid the decline in the trust and performance ratings of Marcos Jr., Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s ratings increased by 7 percentage points from 52% to 59%. Recently, Malacañang spoke its side on the viral “ITIM” campaign ad of Sen. Imee Marcos with VP Sara Duterte.
