Bong Revilla 11th On Senatorial Candidates List, Netizens React

The name of Bong Revilla was allowed to be number 11 on the ballot

Senator Bong Revilla received negative comments from netizens because the court allowed him to be the 11th on the list of senatorial candidates.

Revilla is just one of the many celebrities in the Philippine entertainment industry who ventured into politics. He came from a clan that is both in showbiz and politics. The actor-politician served as a senator for several terms already.

In October last year, Revilla filed his certificate of candidacy for senator. In a report from Inquirer, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said that a court order allowed the actor-politician’s surname and placement on the ballot.

He is now the 11th on the list of senatorial candidates because he used “Bong Revilla” as his surname and his first name is “Ramon Jr.”

“May RTC (regional trial court) decision po ng 2009 granting his petition to change name. OSG (Office of the Solicitor General) did not oppose,” the Comelec Chairman said in a text message to the Inquirer.

The Comelec website showed that Revilla’s registered last name is “Bong Revilla” with “Ramon, Jr.” as his first name and “Bautista” as his middle name.

The 2nd division of Comelec allowed the actor-politician to use “Bong Revilla” as his registered surname for the senatorial race in 2010. This was after the commission junked a disqualification case filed against him for misrepresentation by using the same surname.

In a Facebook post by Inquirer regarding this, Revilla received criticism from netizens. They pointed out that this was not fair and that he was privileged to do things in favor of him because of money.

A netizen even said that politics became a business for many politicians while another netizen stressed that Revilla should not be supported anymore. Here are some comments.
