Chicken Farm Owner in Batangas Finds Newborn Baby Inside Chicken Coop
A newborn baby boy was found abandoned inside a chicken coop in Agoncillo, Batangas on Wednesday (October 9, 2024).
The baby, still with his umbilical cord attached, was discovered by Malou De Leon, the owner of the chicken farm. She went to the coop to meet a customer, only to find the baby wrapped in an eco-bag placed on top of a sack of chicken feed in Barangay Subic Ibaba.
According to Josalyn Cortez, head of the Agoncillo Social Welfare Office, the baby was found naked and appeared to be premature, around seven months old. The baby was immediately sent to a private hospital under the direction of Mayor Cindy Reyes, where doctors confirmed his premature condition.
He is currently in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) but is reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities, including social workers and local police, have started investigating the case, but they have not yet identified the baby’s parents. The social welfare office searched the area and checked with health workers to identify any recent pregnancies or expected deliveries in the community, but they found no leads.
“Kami naman po ay nag-ikot sa area na yun, sa lahat ng bahayan doon at tinanong namin yung mga health workers sa record nila kung sino ang mga kabuwanan o posibleng manganak sa panahon na yun o buwan na ‘yun, wala naman daw po at yung mga buntis doon ay buntis pa hanggang ngayon,” Cortez said.
As of this writing, the baby has been temporarily named “Baby Moses.” Plans are in place to transfer him to a childcare facility where he will receive proper care until his situation is resolved.
The incident has prompted the local community and authorities to call for more vigilance and compassion toward vulnerable infants and young mothers who may be in distress.
