Andrew E shared the first time he met Francis M
Seasoned rapper Andrew E clarified the misconception that he was an “alalay” of Master Rapper Francis Magalona, also known as Francis M.
Andrew has been in the entertainment industry for many years already. From the 80s until the 90s, he and Francis were among the hottest names in the rap genre and they helped boost its popularity in the Philippines.
In a recent interview on the YouTube channel of seasoned journalist Julius Babao, based on the article in Balita, Andrew had a clarification about Francis.
Andrew E shared that he met Francis M because of a break dancing contest. “Dumayo siya [Francis] ng…Makati. Mag-isa lang siya noon and then doon ko siya na-meet for our break dance group,” the King of Tagalog Rap said.
Andrew shared that while the competition was getting intense between his group and their opponent at that time, they saw someone dancing at the podium and that was Francis.
The impending fight between the two groups did not happen because of what the Master Rapper did back then.
“Noong sobrang init na, magsusuntukan na ‘yong RPM saka ROK, bumaba siya. Pagbaba niya…hawak niya ‘yong sarili niyang boombox…pumunta siya sa gilid namin tapos sabi niya: ‘Join ako, pwede?’” Andrew shared.
The tension subsided because of that. After the game, introductions were done and it reached the point that Andrew offered to help Francis.
“Nakita ko bitbit niya ‘yong [boombox], mabigat e. [Sabi ko:] ‘ako na magbibitbit.’ So, ‘yon ‘yong ibig kong sabihing nag-alalay ako sa kaniya papunta sa kotse niya no’ng pauwi na siya,” Andrew explained.
The King of Tagalog Rap added that it did not mean that he became a P.A. or personal assistant of the late rapper. Andrew E reiterated that this was what he meant when he said, “nag-alalay.” It was because he helped Francis M carry his boombox.
Back then, they had no idea that both of them were into rapping. Two years later, Andrew met Francis on the latter’s birthday.
Meanwhile, in a previous interview, Andrew shared the reason why Filipinos are loyal to him and asserted that he never had a celebrity girlfriend.
