Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Confirms Hearing Rumors OVP May Not Get Budget for 2025
SARA DUTERTE – The VP stressed that the Office of the Vice President is ready to work even without a budget.
The deliberations of the budget proposal for 2025 of the Office of the Vice President at the Senate and the House of Representatives seemingly did not go well. At the Senate deliberation, the Vice President had a clash with Senator Risa Hontiveros.
Duterte accused Hontiveros of politicizing after the Senator asked about the P10 million allotted for the distribution of the book that the Vice President has authored. The lawmaker also noticed that the OVP has similar assistance programs with the other government agencies.
At the budget deliberation at the lower chamber of the legislative department, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte had a heated exchange of remarks with France Castro, the ACT Teachers partylist representative. The OVP budget deliberation at the House was moved.
However, Duterte was no show at the resumption of the House hearing on the 2025 budget proposal of the Office of the Vice President. According to the Vice President, she leaves it to the committee as she had presented her positions on the issues surrounding their budget proposal.
In a recent interview, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte expressed that they have heard the talks that the OVP may only be given P1 as budget for 2025. She stressed that their office can operate even without a budget.
“Handa kami, handa ako, sa Office of the Vice President na magtrabaho kahit walang budget,” the Vice President said.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during the interview, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also stressed that they only have a small office and they can push through with their operations even if there is no budget.
Following the heated exchange of statements that she got involved in during the deliberations of the 2025 budget proposal of the OVP at the Senate and the House of Representatives, Vice Pres. Duterte was tagged as a spoiled brat and she reacted to it.
Previously, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced that the Office of the Vice President is asking for a P2 billion budget for 2025. According to the budget department, the budget proposal of the OVP does not include Confidential Funds.
