A 27-year-old man has been arrested after breaking into a large tile store in Mandaue, Cebu, driven by his addiction to the game ‘scatter’.

In the early hours of Monday, August 12, 2024, the police authorities apprehended a man, who goes by the alias Mark.

The suspect who lives with his partner from Liloan City and currently resides in Sitio Bato, Barangay Ermita, Cebu City, entered the store by crawling through the ceiling.

However, his plan was disrupted when the store’s alarm system went off. Panicked, he climbed back into the ceiling. Once the alarm stopped, he came down again and managed to grab P10,000 in cash.

Mark described the incident as happening so quickly that he barely had time to react before the police arrived. This isn’t his first brush with the law; he has been previously jailed for illegal drugs and physical injury.

The latter admitted that his addiction to the ‘scatter’ game led him to commit this crime. He explained that he intended to use the stolen money for daily expenses and gambling. He expressed regret for his actions, especially considering he has two young children, ages five and two.
