150 SK Officials in Pangasinan Suffer from Food Poisoning
Around 150 SK officials from San Carlos City, Pangasinan, were rushed to various hospitals after suspected food poisoning.
Food poisoning is an illness caused by consuming contaminated food or beverages. It usually happens when food is contaminated with harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites, or chemicals.
The symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, pain, fever, and headaches.
The contamination can occur at various stages of food handling, from production to preparation, cooking, or storage. Common sources of food poisoning include undercooked meat, unpasteurized dairy products, contaminated water, and improperly handled or stored foods.
In most cases, food poisoning resolves on its own with rest and hydration, but severe cases may require medical attention, especially if symptoms are severe or persistent.
The incident happened during a seminar at a hotel in Subic Bay Freeport Zone on Tuesday (August 7, 2024). The officials began feeling unwell after eating at the event, with many experiencing severe stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting.
The symptoms pointed to food poisoning, leading to a swift response from local authorities. Police forensic teams collected food samples from the hotel for analysis to determine the cause of the poisoning.
The investigation aims to identify any contamination or safety issues related to the food served at the seminar.
Meanwhile, the Olongapo City Health Office and Subic Bay Freeport Zone authorities have been asked to assist in providing medical care and support to the affected individuals. Their priority is to ensure that all those who became ill receive the necessary treatment and that the cause of the food poisoning is properly addressed.
