History! Carlos Yulo bags Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medal

Carlos Yulo is officially an Olympic gold medalist making a history for the country as this is PH’s first ever gold in Olympic.

Carlos Yulo officially becomes an Olympic gold medalist as he bagged the first place in the floor exercise of Paris 2024. His breathtaking skill and artistry had a near-perfect floor exercise run snatching the gold medal in the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Caloy displayed his skill in the men’s floor exercise at the Bercy Arena in Paris 2024 on Saturday, August 3 (Philippine time).

This is the country’s first-ever gold in Paris 2024, first for a male athlete, and also the first in artistic gymnastics. Hidilyn Diaz was the first Filipina athlete. What a feat indeed! Overall, this is the PH’s second gold following the gold breakthrough of Diaz in Tokyo.

To recall, Diaz earned her gold in weightlifting in the women’s 55-kilogram division in Tokyo three years ago. Yulo’s golden feat in the Olympics made history and also made himself the second athlete from the Philippines to snatch an Olympic gold.

Yulo’s flawless routine displayed his signature combination of high-flying and gravity-defying tumbles and detailed spins. It was almost perfect as he made each turns and sways in the air with grace and confidence.

Yulo scored 15.000 in floor exercise finals of Paris Olympics. The Filipino gymnast got 6.600 from difficulty and 8.400 from execution.

All the hard work has been paid off making him secure the top spot. For the silver is Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat with a score of 14.966 and Great Britain’s Jake Jarman got the bronze after finishing a 14.933 score.

He is to compete again the vault apparatus on Sunday, August 4, another opportunity for him to snatch a gold medal.
