The suspect in the Binalbagan Church incident was previously imprisoned for allegedly gouging the eye of a child.
A few days ago, an unnamed man who identified himself as a Muslim destroyed several statues of saints inside the San Isidro Labrador Catholic Church in Binalbagan City, Negros Occidental.
The culprit reportedly damaged the images of saints while the church was holding its morning mass during the early hours of Wednesday (April 3, 2024).
The latter was arrested by the authorities after the incident. The individual even refused to reveal the motive behind the blasphemous act. The tragic incident has left parishioners and members of the community shocked and dismayed.
The authorities investigate the issues. The Church management also makes an effort to repair the damage.
Recently, the investigation revealed that the suspect identified as Rolly Semira, who vandalized statues inside the Catholic church in Binalbagan, had a previous case in Manila. Based on several sources, the suspect was imprisoned in a murder case after gouging the eye of a child in Taguig City.
Semira was detained in Camp Bagong Diwa and was released in 2007, after which he returned to Binalbagan and converted to Islam.
Reports claimed that the suspect may have experienced hunger, causing him to become agitated, and additionally, he may have been using illegal drugs, leading to his destructive behavior inside the church.
