Pasay City Police Arrest Man and Colleagues for Posing as Government Officials

A man and his colleagues in Pasay City were apprehended after allegedly posing as government officials.

The suspects were allegedly threatening business owners to close their establishments if they didn’t pay “padulas” or grease money. An undercover video captured the suspect dining at a restaurant on Tuesday night (March 12, 2024) with an unidentified companion.

The incident turned out to be part of an entrapment operation orchestrated by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDG). After documenting the suspect receiving a sum of money from the accomplice, he was arrested on charges of robbery and extortion.

Authorities also apprehended the other individuals who were present nearby during the operation.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Jose Joey Arandia of CIDG-NCR, they set up the operation using a complainant who would give money to the suspects, whom they were threatening. Their current negotiation amounted to P5 million.

The suspect and his companions purportedly introduced themselves as government officials connected to First Lady Lisa Araneta Marcos. However, after contacting the First Lady’s office and several complainants, the police launched an operation against the suspects.

Malacañang has yet to release a statement but the suspects have not responded to the allegations against them. The CIDG NCR continues its investigation to determine the extent and prevalence of their operation.

Posing as government employees and engaging in fraudulent activities can lead to severe consequences, both legally and socially. Individuals caught posing as government employees may face charges such as fraud, extortion, identity theft, or impersonation.

Once exposed, their trustworthiness and integrity may be questioned not only by the authorities but also by their friends, colleagues, and the general public. People are likely to view them with suspicion and distrust.
