Gloria Diaz Shares How Miss Universe Taught Her Humility

Gloria Diaz shared what she experienced after her Miss Universe reign

Veteran actress Gloria Diaz shared how Miss Universe taught her a lesson in humility right after she ended her reign.

Gloria is the first-ever Pinay Miss Universe. She was followed by Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach, and Catriona Gray. Being the first winner of the prestigious beauty pageant coming from the Philippines, Gloria brought pride to the country.

In a recent interview on Fast Talk, based on the article in PEP, Gloria told her daughter Isabelle Daza not to join the beauty pageant and she had an amusing reason for this.

Sabi ko nga kay Belle noon, ‘Belle, o ano, mag-join ka sa Miss Universe, ako ang bahala sa yo. Kapag natalo ka, iskandaluhin ko silang lahat,” the veteran actress shared. With this Isabelle said that this is the reason why she did not try joining a pageant.

Isabelle also shared that her mom is a big influence in her life. She learned humility from Gloria. The younger actress shared that there were times when she would tell herself to give up because she was too tired already.

And then she said, like, ‘Don’t make quitting showbiz a problem. If you quit today, no one will remember you. I’ve seen the biggest stars come and go and you’re replaceable.’ It just, like, hit me, the humility and awareness. I was, like, ‘That’s so true,'” Isabelle realized.

Isabelle also said that her mom shaped her into being somebody who values relationships, education, and traveling with kids. She is now imparting these lessons to her children.

This advice from Gloria Diaz came from what she experienced in the past. That was the time when she handed down the Miss Universe title to her successor Miss Puerto Rico Marisol Malaret in 1970.

“They pushed me practically off the stage. Then I was ready to go home that night, they took my limousine na,” she revealed. The car was taken from her and she was told to vacate her suite within 24 hours.

Gloria said that it was a good thing that her parents were there and they had a car. “At 18 years old, that’s a real lesson,” the veteran actress said.
