Police Arrests Snatcher in Quezon City for Stealing Cellphones Twice
A 41-year-old snatcher has been arrested after being caught on CCTV twice snatching cellphones in Quezon City.
Snatching incidents can be frightening and alarming experiences for anyone involved. They occur when someone forcibly takes belongings from another person without permission, often leaving the victim feeling violated and vulnerable.
These incidents can happen in various settings, from crowded streets to quiet neighborhoods, and they can happen quickly, catching victims off guard.
A snatching incident typically involves a suspect quickly grabbing an item such as a purse, phone, or wallet from an unsuspecting individual and then fleeing the scene. These incidents are often opportunistic, with the culprit taking advantage of a moment of distraction or vulnerability on the part of the victim.
Recently, the Anonas Police Station in Barangay Payatas arrested a male snatcher during a follow-up operation.
The consecutive incidents of cellphone snatching occurred in Barangay Sikatuna Village. The victims were walking when the culprit, riding a motorcycle, approached and grabbed their cell phones.
“Ang modus nito ay umiikot-ikot muna sa mga barangay kung saan maghahanap siya ng mabibiktima na karaniwan ay naglalakad sa kalsada na nagse-cellphone. So kapag nakakita siya ng tiyempo, agad niya itong babalikan at ii-snatch ‘yung cellphone,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Ferdinand Casiano, chief of the Anonas Police Station.
Investigations reveal that this isn’t the suspect’s first offense; he has been imprisoned three times before, previously involved in drug-related cases.
The suspect admitted to committing the crimes, stating that he did it because he needed money for his parents. “Ginawa ko po ‘yon (kasi) kailangan ko lang po ng pera para sa magulang ko,” the suspect explained.
The suspect faces charges of robbery and violation of the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.
