Cellphone Snatcher in Tondo, Manila Arrested By Cops w/ Help of GPS Tracker
A cellphone snatcher involved in snatching a teacher’s cellphone was arrested in Tondo, Manila with the help of a GPS tracker.
The incident took place near the intersection of Juan Luna Street and Cavite Street around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (January 3, 2024), where a riding-in-tandem seemed to be lurking.
The target of the thieves was a teacher walking home, busy with her cellphone activities. The entire incident was captured by a nearby CCTV camera, showing the illegal act of the snatchers.
According to Police Captain Jayson Viola, Chief of the Investigation and Intelligence Section at Raxabago Police Station, the teacher was texting when the riding-in-tandem forcibly took her cell phone.
Showing great determination, the victim immediately chased after the thief who grabbed her mobile phone.
“Nagte-text po siya. Ngayon merong riding-in-tandem na inagaw po ‘yung kanyang cellphone. Nag exert po siya ng effort na habulin ‘yung umagaw ng kanyang cellphone,” Viola said.
Captain Viola added, “Kinabukasan pa siya nakapag-report sa atin dahil natakot ‘yung ating biktima.”
Subsequently, the police initiated a follow-up operation, using the GPS tracker in the stolen cellphone.
“Actually moving siya. Ngayon nung huminto siya sa may Victory Liner, pagbaba niya doon, tinuro ng complainant so ‘yung mga kapulisan natin agad-agad na nilapitan siya,” Viola explained.

The victim positively identified the suspect as the one who snatched her belongings. Authorities successfully recovered the stolen cellphone amounting to P80,000, along with the motorcycle used in the crime.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspect had a prior arrest for a similar offense in August 2023. In his defense, the accused cited desperation as the motive behind his actions.
The police authorities are now searching for the accomplice, who will also face charges of robbery snatching.
