Amihan and Shear Line to Affect Country’s Weather Condition, PAGASA Says
PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the amihan and shear line will continue to bring rains over parts of the country.
On Friday (January 26, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shear line and northeast monsoon will still affect the country’s weather conditions.
PAGASA weather agency expert Benison Estareja reported that the northeast monsoon will bring scattered rains expected over the eastern section of Visayas.
The shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Caraga.
Amihan will bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Aklan, and Capiz as well as the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Possible isolated flash floods or landslides are expected in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The northeast monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
“Inaasahan din ang epekto ng amihan sa natitirang bahagi ng Visayas at malaking bahagi ng Luzon. Ito ay nagdadala ng malamig na panahon at mahihinang pag-ulan doon,” Estareja said.
The localized thunderstorms will bring similar weather conditions over the remaining parts of the country. However, flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the western and eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas and the eastern section of Mindanao will be rough. The rest of Luzon and Visayas as well as the rest of Mindanao will have moderate to rough surrounding sea conditions, according to PAGASA.
Estareja reported that the agency does not expect any typhoons to enter our Philippine area of responsibility. However, there is a small that one tropical cyclone may enter the country’s vicinity this month.
“Wala naman tayong inaasahang bagyong papasok ng ating Philippine area of responsibility and low chance na magkakaroon pa tayo hanggang sa matapos ang buwan na ito,” Estareja added.
