Police Authorities Arrest Security Guard for Firing Handgun Amid New Year Celebration
QUEZON CITY – A 44-year-old security guard was arrested for indiscriminate firing a handgun amid the New Year celebration.
New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration and joy as we bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one. While many people mark the occasion with fireworks and festivities, some individuals engage in the indiscriminate firing of handguns.
Indiscriminate firing involves shooting a handgun without aiming at a specific target. This impulsive act often occurs during celebrations like New Year’s Eve, where the excitement of the moment can cloud judgment.
Handguns, designed for precision and control, become dangerous when used in such a careless manner. Bullets fired without a clear target can penetrate walls, windows, and other structures. This puts the property at risk, causing damage and potentially harming those inside.
It is not only dangerous but also illegal to fire indiscriminately. Such actions have been looked upon by law enforcement, and those caught firing firearms recklessly may face serious legal consequences, including criminal charges.
On Tuesday (December 2, 2024), the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) reported that a security guard identified as Boy Bagua was arrested for the alleged indiscriminate firing of a handgun in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City.
A concerned resident reported his inappropriate activity to the police authorities. The suspect was under the influence of alcohol while committing the indiscriminate discharge of firearms.
“During the arrest, it was observed that the suspect was evidently under the influence of alcohol, and a handgun was visibly tucked into his waist,” QCPD said.
The police authorities recovered a .38-cal special pistol loaded with a fired cartridge case and four live rounds of ammunition from the suspect.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded a total of 13 individuals who were arrested over the illegal discharge of firearms from December 16, 2023, to January 1, 2024.
