In Israel-Hamas Update, a Filipino from Negros Occidental falls dead amid conflict.

ISRAEL-HAMAS UPDATE – The Department Of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed another Filipino fatality, a woman from Negros Occidental.

Currently, Israel is at war with Hamas, a Palestinian militant group that began hostilities by air, sea, and land last weekend. The large-scale assault has caused more than 1,200 deaths in Israel and left thousands injured as well.

It is also reported that the militants claimed 150 hostages with them and they have threatened to claim the lives of their hostages.

According to the Palestinian health ministry, more than 1,500 people have been killed in Gaza and the airstrikes have displaced 423,000 people. And recently, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday confirmed the death of another Filipino amid the conflict.

During a briefing in Malacañang, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega shared that a 49-year-old Filipino woman from Negros Occidental died. She was working as a caregiver in the war-stricken area.

This fatality raised the number of Filipinos killed since Hamas began the assault to three (3).

The victim’s family has been informed as well as President Bongbong Marcos.

“The Philippine government is working with the family, the embassy, Israel is in touch with the sisters who are in Kuwait for the repatriation of the remains,” De Vega said to the Palace reporters based on a report from ABS-CBN.

Meanwhile, there are no one has been repatriated yet. There are 131 Filipinos in Gaza and three of them are tourists. 92 FIlipinos have already sought repatriation. Repatriation isn’t possible for now as Gaza is “under blockade” but the DFA is already working on it and working with their diplomatic partners.

As of the latest update from Israel Defense Forces, over 3,200 Israelis were injured, the deaths raised to over 1,300, and over 6,000 rockets were fired from Gaza.
