SIM card registration is now mandated by law for SIM card users in the Philippines. The SIM Card Registration Act was the first measure signed by President Bongbong Marcos into a law. The authorities push for it in the pursuit to reduce the incidents of scamming and spamming.

The different telecommunication providers in the Philippines moved to create platforms for users’ registration as mandated by the law. The Filipinos were also given time to register their SIMs so they will not be deactivated.

Now, unregistered SIMs were deactivated. If you purchase a new SIM, you will have to register it to your telecommunication provider. Below, you can check the step-by-step guide for registration.

There are personal information that will be requested for the registration of your Smart SIM card. You need to prepare the following infos:

  • Mobile Number
  • OTP (One-Time Password, to be sent to your number by Smart upon registration) 
  • Full Name
  • Birth Date
  • Complete Address
  • Gender
  • Nationality

Aside from the aforementioned information, you also need to prepare a valid ID issued by the government. Be ready for a scanned copy of your ID. Here is a list of some of the IDs accepted by the telecommunication company for the registration process:

  • Passport
  • Philippine Identification
  • Social Security System ID
  • Government Service Insurance System E-Card
  • Driver’s License
  • National Bureau of Investigation Clearance
  • Police Clearance
  • Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID
  • Professional Regulation Commission ID
  • Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID
  • Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ID

For the SIM Card register process, you also need to prepare a clear selfie photo. Make sure the background is simple and you must avoid distracting elements.

Step 1. Go to the Smart portal at http://www.smart.com.ph/simreg.   

Step 2. Enter your mobile number and receiver your One-Time Password (OTP).

Step 3. Input your information, upload your valid ID, and upload your selfie.  

Step 4. Wait for an SMS confirmation.
