Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Occidental Mindoro, August 24, 2023
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 3.6 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro today, August 24, 2023.
Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Oriental Mindoro yesterday, another significant quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in its neighboring province. The quake just hit Occidental Mindoro. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 3.6.
The earthquake today that struck Occidental Mindoro, Friday, August 24, 2023, at 07:38 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Looc in Occidental Mindoro.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 13.87°North, 120.39°East – 022 km North 43° East of Looc. It had a depth of focus of 060 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. The following instrumental intensities were logged in these areas:
- Intensity I
- Magallanes, Cavite
- Tagaytay City, Cavite
- Intensity II
- Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
- Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
