Here’s a Guide To the Best Neighborhoods & Hotels In Bangkok
BANGKOK – Here’s a guide to the Best neighborhoods and hotels in Bangkok, Thailand.
Thailand’s capital and geographic center, Bangkok, acts as the nation’s commercial, economic, and political hub. Foreigners refer to the city as Bangkok, while its residents call it Krung Thep, which means “City of Angels.”
Bangkok, being a vast city with attractions spread apart, offers various neighborhoods that are perfect for different types of travelers. In a previous article, we shared how to travel from Manila to Bangkok, Thailand by train, bus, and plane.
Depending on your purpose of visit, you can find an ideal place to stay:
1. If you’re on a budget, SIAM and SILOM are excellent choices, with a good selection of hostels and budget hotels. Look for areas around BTS National Stadium Station or MRT Ratchathewi in Siam, and BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Si Lom in Silom. Staying here allows easy access to most attractions, saving on transportation costs, and you’ll find plenty of cheap food spots around.
2. Backpackers seeking Bangkok’s wild nightlife should head to the KHAO SAN area. Khao San Road attracts backpackers from around the world and offers numerous budget-friendly lodging options. Additionally, it is conveniently located near the Grand Palace and the city’s popular temples.
3. For shopping enthusiasts, the PRATUNAM and SIAM areas are ideal, as they are home to many bargain centers and shopping malls.
4. If you want to experience modern Bangkok with a cosmopolitan vibe, consider staying in the SUKHUMVIT area. Here, you’ll find plenty of dining, shopping, and clubbing options, including famous rooftop bars. It’s also where many expats reside.
5. Foodies should explore SILOM and CHINATOWN, as they offer some of the best and most affordable food spots in the city. Silom, in particular, has Lumphini Park, providing a balance between tranquility and excitement. The BANGLAMPHU area, near the Democracy Monument and Khao San Road, also boasts great Michelin-listed restaurants.
All these areas are conveniently located near BTS/MRT stations, except for KHAO SAN / BANGLAMPHU, which is a 30-minute walk from the nearest BTS Station (Sam Yot). However, it is still recommended, especially for those looking to experience Bangkok’s backpacking culture. Khao San is close to a pier, offering boat transportation to key attractions along the Chao Phraya River. Otherwise, tuk-tuks and taxis are available for transportation to and from Khao San.
For easy accessibility, the SILOM and SIAM areas are top recommendations, as they offer a little bit of everything, including good food, shopping, and nightlife, along with multiple BTS/MRT stations.
