Delivery Rider Who Allegedly Sidelines as Snatcher, Arrested in QC

Cops Arrest Delivery Rider Who Allegedly Sidelines as Snatcher in Quezon City

A delivery rider in Quezon City was arrested for allegedly committing theft as a sideline job. Matthew Reginald Eleazar, a legitimate delivery rider, was caught by patrolling policemen only a few minutes after he snatched a cellphone from a woman who was walking with her friends along Samar Avenue.

The victim positively identified Eleazar as the perpetrator who took her phone. Upon his arrest, authorities also found a hand grenade and a loaded gun in his possession.

What’s alarming is that Eleazar was using his work uniform to conceal his criminal activities, making it easier for him to hide in plain sight. He was using his legitimate job as a cover-up for his illegal activities.

“It so happened na may mga nagpapatrolya tayong mga pulis natin, kasi ang mga motorsiklo natin nasa paligid lang din, so nasalubong nila isang pares ng motorsiklo, nagpatulong sila, na-relay sa ibang kasamahan. Hindi na nakalayo [ang suspek], nasabat na siya,” Torre said.

The stolen cellphone was recovered from the suspect. A hand grenade and a loaded gun were also found in his possession.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was a legitimate delivery rider who sidelines as a snatcher. Eleazar had previously been jailed for a drug-related case, and he had been working as a delivery rider for over two years.

“Ginagamit niya ang uniporme ng trabaho niya para sa paggawa ng krimen. Ang nakikita namin dito, he is hiding in plain sight,” he added.

Eleazar, who is facing charges of robbery, illegal possession of explosives, and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, did not provide any comments.
