Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Batanes, May 12, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Itbayat, Batanes today, Friday, May 12, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Batanes. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Batanes, today, Friday, May 12, 2023, at 05:25 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Itbayat.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Batanes was located at 21.58°North, 121.09°East – 118 km North 42° West of Itbayat. It had a depth of focus of 015 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, no intensity was felt nor recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas.
