Cesar Montano will direct the second Muro-Ami film
Seasoned actor Cesar Montano is set to the Muro-Ami sequel and he will be the one who will be the film’s director.
In 1999, the Muro-Ami movie was released and it was directed by the late Marilou Diaz-Abaya. It tackled one of the most brutal child labor practices in the Philippines. Cesar played the character of Fredo, a ruthless captain of muro-ami divers.
In the movie, children were employed for illegal fishing. In order to get fish, they had to destroy corals.
The said movie was critically acclaimed and many people praised Cesar’s performance. Based on the article in Inquirer, the seasoned actor is set to continue that story of Fredo.
He shared that the setting is now more in the city and not in the ocean. “It’s a combination of action, drama and comedy. It’s about the children again, but this time, the issue is how they were used in the distribution of illegal drugs to earn a living. And how my character, Fredo, will resurface from being infamous to save the children from the drug lords,” Cesar shared.
When it comes to the preparation for his role, Cesar said that he is having the same diet and doing the same workout as what he did in the first Muro-Ami. He needed to do this since Fredo is lean and fit.
When asked if he is open to working with his ex-wife Sunshine Cruz as his love interest in the movie, Cesar Montano said that he is okay with this.
“For art’s sake and for old times’ sake, game ako. But wala nang malisya syempre,” the seasoned actor laughingly said.
