Earthquake: 5.2 Magnitude Quake Rocks Occidental Mindoro

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Occidental Mindoro, April 24, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.2 magnitude quake in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, Monday, April 24, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Occidental Mindoro. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.2.

The earthquake that struck Occidental Mindoro, Monday, April 24, 2023, at 12:23 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Lubang.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 14.27°North, 118.74°East – 157 km North 73° West of Lubang in the municipality of Sarangani. It had a depth of focus of 033 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. The following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded of the said quake:

    • San Antonio, Zambales
    • Quezon City
  • Intensity III
    • Looc, Occidental Mindoro
    • Lubang, Occidental Mindoro

Instrumental Intensities:

  • Intensity I
    • Tagaytay City, Cavite
    • Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
    • San Antonio, Zambales
