Countless Filipinos are members of the Government Service Insurance System or more popularly known as GSIS. Government employees are required to maintain active membership with the social insurance institution by regularly paying their monthly contributions or premiums.

The GSIS Calamity Loan is designed to assist members whose area of residence or workplace has been placed under a State of National Calamity. It was crafted to serve as a recovery aid for those who are affected by the calamities. Considering the geographical location of the Philippines, the country is undeniably prone to natural disasters.

With regards to the GSIS Calamity Loan requirements for application, members must meet both eligibility and documentary conditions. For eligibility, the following qualifications are required:
- A bona fide resident or employee of a government office within the declared calamity area
- With no arrearages in the payment of mandatory social insurance contributions
- In active service and not on leave of absence without pay
- With no loan declared in default
