Authorities Identified Student Allegedly Planning School Shooting in Escalante

Authorities in Escalante City have identified a student who allegedly made threats about carrying out a shooting at Escalante National High School.

On Monday, June 29, 2026, the Escalante City Police Station launched an inquiry after receiving information about messages allegedly sent by a student to a classmate. The messages raised serious concerns among parents, students, and school officials because they reportedly contained statements about a possible attack on the school.

According to the initial investigation, authorities were able to trace and identify the student behind the messages. Reports indicated that the student had been chatting with a classmate and allegedly discussed plans to carry out a shooting inside the school.

The messages also reportedly referenced a recent school shooting incident in Tacloban City and suggested that similar actions could be taken without fear of punishment.

Investigators also found that the student had allegedly sent a photograph of a firearm during the conversation. It increased concerns and led authorities to take immediate action to determine whether there was a genuine threat to the safety of students and staff.

The attempt was discovered after the aunt of one of the students shared screenshots of the conversation. She discovered the messages after her niece fell asleep while using a tablet and accidentally left the device open.

Upon reading the conversation, the family became alarmed and reported the matter.

According to the aunt, her niece had only become acquainted with the student through the online game Roblox.

Police officers quickly coordinated with school officials and began conducting interviews and gathering information. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full context of the messages and whether any actual danger exists.

School officials have also reminded students and parents to report suspicious online behavior immediately.
