Actress-politician Aiko Melendez shared her list of senatorial candidates for the 2028 elections.
Aiko has spent decades in the entertainment industry. Eventually, she ventured into politics, and she is currently serving as Quezon City 5th District Councilor.
Despite her duty in the government, Aiko is still active in the entertainment industry. Her most recent acting project was the Viva Movie Box’s vertical drama A Mother’s Sacrifice, with her son Andre Yllana.
Being a public servant, Aiko Melendez’s social media page does not solely focus on showbiz. At times, she would share posts about politics, just like what she recently posted.
The actress-politician shared the personalities she prefers to vote for Senators in the 2028 elections.
“2028 is still a year and a half away, so I’m not filling up my entire Senate list just yet. I believe it’s only fair to keep observing, listening, and watching how everyone performs before making a final decision,” she wrote.
On the other hand, Aiko said that if the election were to happen today, these are the top three choices that she has. The first on her list is Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Aiko’s reason was that the female mayor was able to transform the city into one of the most progressive and people-centered local governments in the Philippines.
Aiko also said that she likes how Mayor Joy institutionalized inclusive policies and showed that transparency, innovation, and compassion can work hand-in-hand.
The actress-politician also said that she wants to vote for Atty. Rowena Guanzon because “She has consistently spoken out against corruption and abuse of power, regardless of who is involved.”
Aiko cited that Guanzon serving in “Commission on Audit and the Commission on Elections gave her deep experience in accountability, governance, and protecting democratic institutions.”
The actress-politician also pointed out that Guanzon is not afraid to challenge powerful personalities.
The third personality that Aiko Melendez mentioned was Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto. She pointed out that Mayor Vico became a symbol of transparent and accountable governance in local government.
Aiko also highlighted the efforts of Mayor Vico to push for “innovation, digitalization, and efficient delivery of public services.” For her, the Pasig City mayor is representing the younger generation of leaders who are focused on good governance and do not embrace traditional politics.
“Again, these are simply my personal choices as of today. We still have plenty of time before 2028, and I believe every voter should continue observing, asking questions, and evaluating each candidate based on their track record not just campaign promises,” Aiko Melendez said.
The actress-politician also asked netizens to share their choices as well, but stressed that they should keep the discussion respectful.
