Grade 4 Student Suffers Injuries After Alleged Assault by Group of Older Youths
A Grade 4 student in Coron, Palawan suffered facial injuries after allegedly being assaulted by a group of older youths near a school.
On June 25, 2026, the assault raises concern from local authorities and school officials, who are now conducting separate investigations to determine what really happened.
According to the child’s mother, her son, referred to as “Natnat” to protect his identity, was eating with friends when several older teenagers approached them near a waiting shed. The youths, believed to be between 14 and 16 years old, reportedly asked the younger student to buy them food.
When he was unable to do so, an altercation allegedly followed, resulting in the child being physically attacked.
The Grade 4 student sustained swelling and bruises around his eyes. His family later reported the incident to authorities and filed a police blotter. The child’s parents also appealed to the families of the youths involved to guide and monitor their children more closely.
The Coron Municipal Police Station immediately began an investigation. Police said they are still verifying the identities of those involved and determining whether the alleged attackers are students.
Once identified, the youths and their parents will be invited to the police station to discuss the matter.
The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office are also expected to step in and provide the necessary assistance and intervention for both the children and their families.
As the investigation progressed, another version of the incident surfaced. School officials and local education authorities said initial findings suggested that the younger student may have challenged other students to a fistfight.
