Sen. Ping Lacson Speaks on Senate Expenses during Senate Presidency of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano
PING LACSON – The Senator claimed that an estimated P700 million was allegedly spent by the Senate during the lead of former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
Recently, ahead of the session in the Senate that gathered 13 senators, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano conceded as the Senate president. His surrender came after days of insisting that he is supposedly the legitimate, legal, and moral Senate president of the country after 12 senators voted to declare all positions in the chamber vacant.
Cayetano maintained that 13 votes were supposedly needed to oust him and elect a new Senate president. The said controversial session in the chamber took place after one of the members of the then-majority bloc appeared at the Senate and joined the then-minority bloc forming a 12-senator quorum.
The 12 senators elected Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian as Senate President Pro Tempore after they voted to remove all Senate officials. Gatchalian presided the June 3 Senate plenary session.
On June 17, 2026, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano conceded after a conversation with Sen. Joel Villanueva. The Pastor Senator is the second member of the Cayetano bloc to join the majority bloc amid the Senate issues.
With 13 votes, Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian was officially elected as Senate president. Former Senate President and minority leader Tito Sotto was elected as the Senate President Pro Tempore while Sen. Migz Zubiri, also a former SP, is back as the floor majority leader.
Recently, Sen. Ping Lacson slammed the term of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano as Senate president. Through a post on social media, the Senator claimed that the chamber allegedly spent an estimate of P700 million under the lead of Cayetano for 28 days.
According to Sen. Ping Lacson, the term of former Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano allegedly has “chaos” to show for amid the estimated P700 million spending of the chamber under his lead. Based on the report, Lacson regarded it as “a waste of taxpayer’s money”.
“THE PHILIPPINE SENATE in 28 days under Alan Peter Cayetano: Estimated Cost – P700M. Output – chaos, gunfire, Bato’s escape despite ICC-issued warrant while under its “protective custody”, session boycott, failed destabilization attempt, unauthorized committee hearings highlighted by one not presided nor attended by a single senator,” Lacson stated in a post on X.
Recently, former Senate President Pro Tempore Loren Legarda reacted to the election of Senate Pres. Sherwin Gatchalian in the top post in the chamber.
