Mika Salamanca Reveals Why Being Performative Is Not Always a Bad Thing
MIKA SALAMANCA – During a spicy podcast challenge, Mika Salamanca delivered an even spicier response that quickly caught the attention of viewers online.
Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition Big Winner Mika Salamanca recently shared her thoughts on the often-debated concept of being “performative,” even naming herself when asked about a celebrity or influencer who fits the description.
During a recent episode of the podcast Hot Takes, specifically in its segment “One for the Road,” Mika took on a challenge that required her to eat spicy food while answering equally spicy questions. One of the questions asked her to identify a celebrity or influencer she personally knows who is performative.

Rather than pointing to someone else, Mika candidly turned the spotlight on herself.
“I really think…ako,” she said laughing. “Kasi lagi nila sinasabi sa akin na performative ako!”
Her response immediately drew attention, but Mika went on to explain that she does not necessarily view being performative as something entirely negative. According to her, there are situations where acting with intention or making a conscious effort to do good can actually have positive effects.
She said, “If ‘yong pagiging hindi mo performative ay magiging masamang tao ka, pero kapag performative ka pala [ay] napakabait mong tao [at] nakakatulong ka sa ibang tao, I think kailangan natin ng konting performativity.”
She further elaborated on her perspective, emphasizing that even a small amount of performative behavior may be beneficial if it encourages people to become better individuals and contribute positively to society.
“Kailangan natin maging kahit konti lang na performative sa buhay natin kung magiging mas mabuting tao tayo. I think we should,” she added.

The term “performative” is commonly used to describe individuals who appear to be insincere or who engage in certain actions primarily to maintain or enhance their public image. In popular culture and social media discussions, the label is often associated with people who project a particular persona for public approval rather than acting from genuine intentions.
However, Mika’s remarks offered a different perspective on the issue. Instead of viewing performative behavior solely as hypocrisy or pretense, she suggested that if such actions inspire kindness, generosity, and positive behavior toward others, they may not always be harmful.
The concept of performativity is believed to have originated from philosopher J.L. Austin, who introduced the term through his work on language theory.
