Joshua Garcia Gets Honest About What Happens Before Love Scenes
JOSHUA GARCIA – Actor Joshua Garcia may already be one of the industry’s biggest stars, but when it comes to filming romantic scenes, the actor still feels nervous behind the camera.
After more than a decade in the entertainment industry, Kapamilya actor Joshua Garcia admitted that he still feels uncomfortable doing love scenes, especially when it involves showing parts of his body on camera.
During the recent Star Magic Spotlight Presscon, Joshua candidly shared that he often talks to cameramen before filming intimate scenes and even asks them to avoid certain camera angles that make him uneasy.
“Uncomfortable talaga kasi, showing your body? Ang hirap no’n ha! Every time na may love scene ako, kinakausap ko ‘yong mga cameraman namin. Sasabihin ko sa kanila, ‘Uy, iwasan mo ‘yong tiyan ko ha?’” Joshua revealed.
The actor added that cameramen would often cooperate with his request despite instructions from the director to adjust shots.
“Gagawin niya [ng cameraman] naman kahit naririnig ko si direk, ‘Ibaba mo pa ‘yong camera, ‘yong angle mo, ibaba pa.’ ‘Yong cameraman matibay siya, hindi niya talaga binababa. So, kapag gano’ng scene, dinadaan ko muna sa mga cameraman,” he shared.
Despite his discomfort, Joshua emphasized that openness and trust between actors are important factors in making intimate scenes work naturally. He cited his experience with Kapamilya actress Ivana Alawi while filming their project “Love Is Never Gone.”
“No’ng umpisa pa lang,” Joshua said, “kita ko na rin talaga sa kanya na sobrang open niya sa mga eksena, like, siya pa mismo ‘yong nagsasabi kay direk na ‘direk, anong gusto mong gawin dito?’ Talagang kita ko ‘yong focus niya sa ginagawa niya.”
Joshua acknowledged Ivana’s professionalism and dedication, noting that her willingness to collaborate made their scenes easier to execute.
Meanwhile, fans may recall that during the “Love Is Never Gone” press conference held in April, Ivana was asked to rate Joshua’s kissing scene performance.
“Ten,” Ivana answered. “Kasi nakita n’yo, siya ‘yong talagang grabe….Ang laki ng bibig niya.”
She then jokingly added, “Ta’s sabi ko, ‘Hoy, grabe kang sumipsip! ‘Yong lipstick ko nawawala.’ Ayun, okay naman. Magaling, magaling siya.”
According to Ivana, they successfully delivered their kissing scenes with guidance from the series director, Emmanuel Quindo Palo, helping them create scenes that effectively matched the story’s emotional demands.
