Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes Criticizes VP Sara Duterte Anew
TRILLANES – The former Senator warned the public about another Duterte presidency if Vice President Sara Duterte wins the 2028 presidential elections.
The 2028 Elections is still more than a year away from now but there are already strong talks about the national polls. One of the government officials who confirmed a bid in the next poll is Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously declared that she will run for president in the 2028 Elections. Her announcement came amid the presence of multiple impeachment complaints being hurled against her.
The House of Representatives’ House Justice Committee found two (2) out of four (4) impeachment raps against Duterte to be sufficient in form, substance, and grounds. Impeachment hearings were recently held.
Duterte skipped the two (2) impeachment hearings set by the House Justice panel as they question the constitutionality of the proceedings. Here are some of the grounds raised against the Vice President:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection
Amid the talks about the 2028 Elections, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes recently slammed the supposed “nonchalant” stance of Naga Mayor Leni Robredo over the possible Duterte presidency in 2028. According to the former Senator who is a staunch critic of the Dutertes, Robredo’s stance which is supposedly not definitive allegedly weakens the position of the opposition.
Recently, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes warned that voting Vice Pres. Sara Duterte for president in the 2028 Elections may allegedly lead to abuse in power. Based on News5, he also compared the Vice President to her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
“Sara Duterte is basically Digong without the sense of humor and a shorter fuse. And I believe Sara Duterte has psychological issues and mentally unstable. You give presidential powers to such a person, that’s a formula for abuse of authority and power,” the former Senator said.
Based on the post, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes also said that “Duterte 2.0 under Sara Duterte could be worse” allegedly because of the temperament of the now-Vice President. The younger Duterte has yet to speak on the claims of the staunch critic of their family.
Recently, following the criticisms of former Sen. Trillanes, former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo put an end to the speculations about her possible presidential bid in 2028.
