Authorities Arrest Individual for Begging on Streets in Cebu City 

The Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office apprehended the individual near Fuente in Cebu City after being caught begging on the street. 

The agency later shared photos of the operation on its official Facebook page, showing their efforts to catch individuals begging on the streets. The post quickly went viral and drew reactions online. 

On Monday, April 20, 2026, the Cebu City Anti-Mendicancy Office carried out the operation as part of their ongoing efforts to keep public spaces safe and orderly. According to the office, the arrest took place after reports were received about a person asking for alms in the area.

Authorities quickly verified the situation and responded to the scene. After being approached by officers, the individual was taken into custody and brought to the police station for proper handling. 

Some coins collected from begging were also found in the person’s possession during the operation. 

Local authorities reminded the public that begging in public places is strictly prohibited under City Ordinance No. 1631, also known as the Anti-Mendicancy Ordinance. This law aims to maintain cleanliness, order, and safety in the city’s streets, especially in busy areas where accidents and other risks may occur.

Officials explained that enforcing this ordinance is not only about following the law but also about protecting individuals who beg from the dangers of traffic and other hazards in public spaces. 

They added that discipline on the streets begins with awareness and cooperation from everyone.
