Who are the members who made up the Artemis 2 mission?
Over the past 10 days, four astronauts flew around the moon for the Artemis 2 mission, and here are the crew members.
The Artemis 2 was able to travel into space further than any humans in history, and soon enough, they will be welcomed by the welcoming waters of the Pacific Ocean. The mission was a spectacular success.
The mission took off on April 1, 2026, and after spending 10 days on a trip around the moon aboard the Orion spacecraft, they were able to reach as far as the back of the moon.
The multibillion-dollar Artemis program is a series of missions aimed at returning astronauts to the Moon’s surface by 2028, ahead of China, while also establishing a sustained U.S. presence in the years that follow. The long-term goal is to build a lunar base that could support future missions to Mars.
The crew members of this mission are:
- Reid Wiseman – Commander
He is a highly experienced NASA astronaut and former chief of the Astronaut Office. He has a background as a U.S. Navy test pilot, with strong leadership and flight experience. His experiences display strong reasons, making him fit to command the mission and oversee all operations. - Victor Glover – Pilot
He is a U.S. Navy aviator and test pilot who became the first Black astronaut to live aboard the International Space Station (ISS). He previously flew on SpaceX Crew-1 from 2020 to 2021, and as pilot, he will help operate the Orion spacecraft while supporting navigation, systems management, and overall mission operations. - Christina Koch – Mission Specialist
She has set a record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman. She spent 328 days in space and participated in the first all-female spacewalk. She has extensive experience in long-duration missions. She is also experienced in scientific research, handling experiments, systems monitoring, and mission tasks. - Jeremy Hansen – Mission Specialist
He is the first Canadian selected for a mission to the Moon and a former Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot. He has been part of the astronaut corps since 2009. Although he has not yet flown to space, he brings strong technical expertise and a valuable perspective in international collaboration to the crew.
