Grieving Family Robbed During Wake at Funeral Home in Puerto Princesa
A grieving family already dealing with the pain of losing a loved one earns sympathy online after they were robbed during a wake in Puerto Princesa.
On March 28, 2026, the family had gathered to mourn and spend time beside their departed relative at a funeral home in Barangay San Miguel. Due to exhaustion and lack of sleep, many of them had fallen asleep inside the funeral home.
They were also preparing for an early trip the next day to bring the remains of their loved one to Dumaran.
According to Reymar Olinares, the son of the deceased, everyone inside was resting when the incident took place. It gave the suspect an opportunity to quietly approach the area without being noticed.
CCTV footage showed a man arriving on a motorcycle and stopping in front of the funeral home. He was not wearing any face covering aside from a helmet. Before entering, he casually took a bottle of soft drinks from a table outside.
He then slowly checked the surroundings and looked inside the wake area. After confirming that everyone was asleep, the man went inside.
After a few moments, he came out carrying a bag that reportedly contained three mobile phones and cash. The suspect acted calmly after the incident. Before leaving, he even finished the soft drink and took more drinks from the table, as if nothing had happened.
The incident has been reported to the Mendoza Police Station. With the help of CCTV footage, authorities were able to identify the suspect, who is said to have a previous record of theft.
