Sara Duterte: Survey Shows Over Half of Filipino Population Distrust the VP amid Corruption Issues

Pulse Asia Surveys Reveals Trust Rating on VP Sara Duterte amid the Impeachment Process

SARA DUTERTE – The result of the latest Pulse Asia Survey showed that more than half of the Filipino population distrust the Vice President.

Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco believes that Vice Pres. Duterte is the 2028 presidential bet who will allegedly hold the flood control culprits accountable if she wins the next presidential race. The House of Representatives member expressed his belief backing it with “1 million” certainty.

The statement of Tiangco came amid corruption issues and impeachment moves hurling around the Vice President. Today is actually the first day of the House Justice panel’s mini-trial of the impeachment raps against her.

However, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte skipped the House impeachment hearing set today. Prior to his absence, his lawyer, Atty. Michael Poa, had stressed that the Vice President is not required to personally attend the hearing.

Several grounds were raised against Duterte by the complainants. Two (2) out of four (4) impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President were found sufficient in form, substance, and grounds by the House Justice panel. Here are the grounds raised against the Vice President in one of the impeachment raps:

  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
  • Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte remains questioned about the supposed misuse of the P625-million confidential funds of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Office of the Vice President (OVP). Her camp remains firm that they are ready to face the allegations against her.

Amid the corruption accusations, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously declared that she will run for president in 2028. However, based on a recent survey conducted by the Pulse Asia Survey, more than half of the Filipino people reportedly distrust the Vice President because of the corruption issues against her.

Based on a post of News5, the results of the Pulse Asia Survey showed that 51.1% of the respondents said that they don’t trust Vice Pres. Sara Duterte because of her alleged involvement in the corruption in the government. The second reason cited on the distrust towards the Vice President was her alleged threats against some members of the Marcos Jr. administration.

Furthermore, based on the post, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s alleged rude behavior is the third reason why more than half of the Filipino people no longer trusts her. The same Pulse Asia Survey found that 12.8% Filipino respondents say they trust the Vice President for her capacity to lead and her heart for the poor.

Today, at the impeachment hearing held by the House Justice Committee, some members of the House brought with them “Piattos” placed in “Mary Grace” paper bag which is seemingly a swipe against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
