Former Pres. Gloria Arroyo, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Meets at Event in Davao City
GLORIA ARROYO – The former President and now Pampanga Congresswoman mentioned Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s declaration of presidential bid in the 2028 Elections.
Amid multiple impeachment complaints being hurled against her, Vice Pres. Duterte previously declared that she will run for president in 2028. Her announcement gained different reactions from the people as well as her fellow government officials.
The Duterte supporters rejoiced over the announcement of Vice Pres. Duterte while her critics stressed that it is allegedly too early to be talking about 2028. Her statement came amid three (3) impeachment complaints having been filed against her before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives.
Shortly after she declared her bid for president, the fourth impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was filed before the House. The House Committee on Justice recently tackled the impeachment raps.
The House Justice panel set aside the first impeachment complaint against Duterte for violating the one year rule ban while the complainants of the second impeachment rap decided to withdraw the complaint to avoid procedural delays as they cast their support on the third impeachment rap.
Two (2) impeachment complaints against Duterte were found sufficient in form and substance by the House Justice Committee. The Vice President is accused of the following in the third impeachment complaint filed against her:
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount over PHP 500 million confidential funds (CF) allocated to the Office of the Vice President from 2022 to 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in amassing and converting the amount of not less than PHP 112.5 million of confidential funds allocated to the Department of Education (DepEd) for the year 2023
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust by corrupting and bribing officials of the DepEd
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes in contracting to murder or assassinate the president, the first lady, and the former speaker of the House
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in amassing unexplained wealth and failing to disclose all her properties and interests in properties in her SALN
- Alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust in committing acts of political destabilization and the high crimes of sedition and insurrection
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte met with former President and now Pampanga Congresswoman Gloria Arroyo at an event in Davao City. Based on News5, they graced the pop-up exhibit for vice presidents of the Philippines.
During her speech at the event, Pampanga Cong. Gloria Arroyo mentioned the announcement of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte of her presidential bid in 2028. Based on the post, the former President tagged it as “significant” in the democracy in the country.
“As the Vice President has recently declared her intention to seek the presidency, such announcements are always significant not only for the individual concern but for our democracy,” Arroyo said.
There are still no details as to whether or not the political party of Pampanga Cong. Gloria Arroyo will support the presidential bid of the Vice President. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that four politicians allegedly reached out to her for her 2028 senatorial slate.
