Father & Daughter Die in Pasay Fire After Daughter Returned to Save Bedridden Father
A father and his daughter died after they were trapped inside their burning home in a residential area in Barangay 85, Pasay City.
According to Pasay City Fire Marshal Fire Superintendent Alma Cassandra Gardose, the father was 80 years old while his daughter was 37. Reports said the daughter returned to their burning house along Villanueva Street in an attempt to rescue her bedridden father on Thursday afternoon (March 12, 2026).
Authorities believe the woman may have already escaped but decided to go back inside the house to save him. Because the father could not move on his own, she tried to take him out of the burning home. Unfortunately, both of them were unable to get out as the fire quickly spread.

“Binalikan po yata nung babae yung kanyang tatay kaya hindi na po sila nakalabas. Dahil na rin po siguro sa sobrang sikip ng dadaanan papasok doon sa kanilang mga kabahayan,” Gardose said.
Officials said the narrow pathways in the area may have made it difficult for them to escape in time. The houses were also built very close to each other, which allowed the fire to spread rapidly.
The fire was reported at around 5:56 in the afternoon. It was raised to the first alarm within three minutes and reached the second alarm shortly after. Firefighters declared the blaze under control at around 7:18 in the evening and it was completely extinguished at 7:58 p.m.
Nearly 60 fire trucks from the Bureau of Fire Protection and volunteer fire groups responded to the incident. Firefighters faced difficulties while putting out the fire because of the narrow streets, the large crowd in the area, and the lack of nearby fire hydrants.
Authorities also said the fire was reported late, which may have allowed it to grow larger before responders arrived. Most houses in the area were made of light materials, which helped the flames spread quickly.
The Pasay Social Welfare and Development Department reported that 46 families or 122 individuals were affected by the fire. Many of them are currently staying at Jose Rizal Elementary School, which is being used as a temporary evacuation center.
