Update on 4-Day Work Week in DepEd Following Marcos Jr.’s Order
DEPED – The Department of Education announced a 4-day work week for the non-teaching personnel amid the high fuel costs.
Amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East, concerns about the oil price crossed the surface. Today marked the first bigtime hike in pump prices which led countless motorists and vehicle owners to fill up their vehicles’ tanks ahead of the fuel price hike.

Previously, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced the temporary implementation of the 4-day work week as the country tries to cope with high fuel costs. The Chief Executive clarified that there’s an exemption to the announcement.
“Hindi kabilang dito ang mga nagbibigay ng emergency o pangunahing serbisyo, gaya ng mga pulis, bumbero, at mga tanggapan na nagbibigay ng frontline services sa publiko,” Marcos Jr. said.

As to the Department of Education which is one of the biggest government institutions in the Philippines, according to News5, the 4-day work week only applies to the non-teaching personnel. For the mean time, every Friday, the non-working personnel of DepEd will be under a work from home setup every Friday.
The announcement of the Department took effect on March 9, 2026, under DepEd Memorandum No. 018, series of 2026. The move is part of the government’s broader push to for energy conservation as well as to reduce costs.

The 4-day work week setup in DepEd covers the non-teaching staff, related teaching personnel, and even contract-of-service and job-order employees. Based on the post, regular teachers are not included in the reduced duty days for the week.
Thus, the teaching staff in DepEd will continue with their usual schedule. The department underscored that the move to implement a 4-day work week on the non-teaching personnel is a move to ease the burden of rising fuel and electricity costs. It assured that frontline services will remain available.

Amid the new setup for the non-teaching personnel, they are required to submit aily time record, individual daily logs, and accomplishment reports. Amid the escalating tension in the Middle East, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously called on the government agencies to move.
