Jasmine Curtis Clarifies Statement After Controversial Post About Veteran Journalists
JASMINE CURTIS – Kapuso actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith has walked back her earlier criticism of two respected journalists, saying her statement comparing them to Rep. Bong Suntay was made out of frustration.
Jasmine Curtis-Smith admitted that she regrets her earlier remarks criticizing two veteran broadcast journalists after reacting strongly to an issue involving Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay.
The controversy began when Jasmine reposted a video on social media showing journalists Manny Mogato and Ed Lingao interviewing Suntay. The discussion centered on the lawmaker’s alleged disrespectful remarks toward Jasmine’s sister, actress Anne Curtis.

In her emotional response posted on X on March 3, Jasmine questioned the tone of the interview and expressed disappointment toward the hosts.
“BAKIT TUMATAWA UNG MGA LALAKING HOSTS SA PAGTATANONG NILA?????? WALA KAYONG INIBA KAY BONG SUNTAY,” Jasmine wrote in her post.
Her statement quickly drew mixed reactions online. While some supporters agreed with her frustration, many netizens came to the defense of Mogato and Lingao. According to several viewers, the hosts’ laughter during the interview was not meant to belittle the issue but was interpreted as a form of disbelief or sarcasm toward Suntay’s explanation.
Lingao himself later addressed the criticism in a social media post after seeing Jasmine’s remarks. He pushed back against claims suggesting that the journalists were laughing out of fear or reluctance to challenge the lawmaker.
“Yung iba namang nagkokomento na takot daw kami at bahag ang buntot kaya kami natatawa – I seriously don’t think we have the same threshold for fear,” Lingao wrote.
Following the online exchange and public reactions, Jasmine returned to X to clarify her stance and acknowledge that her earlier statement may have gone too far. She admitted that her comparison between the journalists and Suntay was made out of frustration.
“I regret likening the hosts to Bong Suntay, that was too strong and said in frustration,” Jasmine said.

Despite expressing regret over her wording, the actress maintained her position on the broader issue surrounding respect for women. She emphasized that discussions involving comments that diminish women should be treated with seriousness rather than laughter.
“I still stand by the point that laughter has no place in a discussion about remarks that diminish women.
“This is a long-standing issue that generations of women have had to confront, and it deserves to be treated with seriousness.
“I hope the conversation continues to focus on the remark itself and why comments that disrespect women should be called out clearly,” Jasmine added.
The exchange has since sparked broader conversations online about media responsibility, tone in interviews, and the importance of addressing issues related to respect and dignity for women.
